How to schedule Instagram posts, reels and stories in 2026

Schedule Instagram posts and reels in the app, stories in Meta Business Suite, or everything with your other networks. The steps and Instagram’s current limits.

6 minute read By SocialHelper team

Yes, you can schedule Instagram posts, and you don’t need another app to do it. In the Instagram app, any public account can schedule photos, carousels and reels up to 30 days ahead, 25 a day. Tap More options, turn on Schedule this post, and pick a time. Stories can’t be scheduled in the app, but Meta Business Suite can schedule them along with posts and reels. A scheduler such as SocialHelper can plan up to 1 year ahead and post to your other networks at the same time.

Instagram’s rules have changed, and many guides still say 75 days and professional accounts only. Everything below follows Instagram’s and Meta’s own help pages as they read on October 17, 2026.

Three ways to schedule Instagram posts

Each route can schedule different things, and the biggest gap is stories, which only Meta Business Suite can schedule.

Meta Business Suite’s mobile app lists posts, Stories and Reels as content you can schedule (Meta Business Help Center). SocialHelper’s column comes from its own code: it publishes feed posts, reels and carousels through Instagram’s API, which only works for professional accounts.

How to schedule a post or reel in the Instagram app

You need a public account. Instagram says that “you can schedule up to 25 posts a day, up to 30 days in advance” (Instagram Help Center).

  1. Tap Create at the top left, or swipe right anywhere in your feed, then tap Post or Reel.
  2. Pick a photo or video and tap Next.
  3. Add your caption, effects or filters.
  4. Tap More options.
  5. Turn on Schedule this post (or Schedule this reel) and choose a date and time.
  6. Tap Done, then Back, then Schedule.

The post keeps the privacy and audience settings it had when you scheduled it, and some features don’t work with scheduling yet. Instagram lists “product tagging, collaborative posts, sponsored posts and fundraisers”, so add those to posts you share right away.

Before you pick a time, check when your followers are online. The best time to post on Instagram compares three large studies and shows how to find your own peak hours.

Find, edit or reschedule a scheduled post

Scheduled content is Instagram’s list of the posts and reels waiting to go out. To open it, go to your profile and tap Menu at the top right. Under Your insights and tools, tap Scheduled content. You can also tap Create and then Scheduled. Tap Options next to a post to delete it, edit it, reschedule it or share it now.

How to schedule Instagram stories

The Instagram app doesn’t schedule stories. Its help page lists reels, photos and carousel posts only. Meta Business Suite does, on a computer or in its phone app.

  1. Open Meta Business Suite and click Create story, from the home page or the Content tab.
  2. Under Post to, choose your Instagram profile, your Facebook Page or both.
  3. Under Media, add up to 10 photos or videos, then edit each one if you want to crop it, trim it or add text, stickers or a link.
  4. Under Scheduling options, choose Schedule, pick the date and time, then click Schedule.

Scheduled stories wait under Content, then Stories, then Scheduled, where you can publish, reschedule or delete them (Create and manage stories in Meta Business Suite). Instagram’s API can publish a story, but it has no way to set a time, so a tool must send it at the right moment (Instagram content publishing API). SocialHelper doesn’t publish stories.

Schedule posts from a computer with Meta Business Suite

Meta Business Suite is Meta’s dashboard for a business’s Facebook Page and Instagram account, where you create, schedule and manage posts for both. To post from it, you need full control of the Instagram account or Content permission for it.

  1. Click Create post, from the home page or the Content tab.
  2. Under Post to, choose your Instagram profile, and your Facebook Page too if you want both.
  3. Add your photos under Media. Instagram takes up to 10.
  4. Write the text under Post details. You can write a different version for Facebook and Instagram.
  5. Under Scheduling options, pick the date and time, then click Schedule.

Click Active times to see recommended times, based on when your followers were most active over the past 7 days. Scheduled posts sit under Content, then Posts & reels, then Scheduled, where you can edit, reschedule, move to drafts or delete them (Create and manage posts in Meta Business Suite).

Schedule Instagram with your other networks in SocialHelper

A scheduler makes sense when Instagram is one of several places you post, or when you plan more than a month ahead. In SocialHelper you write the post once, pick your Instagram account along with any other connected accounts, and then choose When.

  • Schedule sends it at the date and time you pick, up to 1 year ahead.
  • Add to queue puts it in your next free posting time. Posting times are the weekly slots your team sets once, up to 70 a week.

Before anything is scheduled, SocialHelper checks the post against Instagram’s rules: a photo or video is required, images must be JPEG, and captions stop at 2,200 characters. You can edit or cancel a scheduled post until about a minute before it goes out. The scheduling help page has every step, and developers can schedule through the API or an AI assistant, as the Instagram API guide explains.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I schedule posts on Instagram?

Check that your account is public, that the time is within 30 days, and that you haven’t already scheduled 25 posts that day. A post with product tags, collaborators, the sponsored label or a fundraiser can’t be scheduled either.

Where are my scheduled posts on Instagram?

On your profile, tap Menu, then Scheduled content under Your insights and tools. You can also tap Create, then Scheduled.

Can you schedule Instagram stories?

Not in the Instagram app, but Meta Business Suite schedules stories on a computer and in its phone app, with up to 10 photos or videos at a time.

Can you schedule Instagram posts from a computer?

Yes, with Meta Business Suite in a browser or a scheduler such as SocialHelper. The Instagram app’s own scheduler only works on your phone.

Can you schedule Facebook and Instagram posts at the same time?

Yes. In Meta Business Suite, choose both your Page and your Instagram profile under Post to, and SocialHelper does the same with your other connected networks too.

Did Instagram change how far ahead you can schedule?

Instagram’s help page now says 30 days and any public account, while many guides still quote 75 days and professional accounts only. This guide follows the help page as it read on October 17, 2026.
