Best time to post on LinkedIn in 2026: what three big studies say
Morning, midday or evening? What Buffer, Sprout Social and Hootsuite found about the best time to post on LinkedIn, day by day, and how to test your own.
7 minute read By SocialHelper team
There’s no single best time to post on LinkedIn, and three big studies recommend three different parts of the day. Buffer’s 2026 analysis of 4.8 million posts puts the peak in the late afternoon and evening, with Wednesday at 4 pm on top. Sprout Social finds the strongest window on Tuesday from 11 am to 5 pm. Hootsuite’s analysis favours mornings on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The studies do agree about the shape of the week, since every one of them ranks the weekend last and rates Wednesday highly.
What three large studies found
| Study | Data | Best days and times |
|---|---|---|
| Buffer | 4.8 million posts, published September 2026 | Wednesday; weekdays 3 to 8 pm, best slot Wednesday 4 pm |
| Sprout Social | Nearly 2 billion engagements on 307,000 profiles across six networks, November 2025 to February 2026 | Tuesday to Thursday; Tuesday 11 am to 5 pm |
| Hootsuite | Over 1 million social posts, published November 2025 | Tuesday and Wednesday mornings |
Sources: Buffer, Sprout Social and Hootsuite, checked October 17, 2026. Neither Buffer nor Hootsuite states the period its data covers.
Best time to post on LinkedIn, day by day
| Day | Buffer | Sprout Social | Hootsuite |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | 10 pm | 1 to 2 pm | 11 am |
| Tuesday | 4 pm | 11 am to 5 pm | 6 to 8 am |
| Wednesday | 4 pm | 11 am to 4 pm | 9 am |
| Thursday | 5 pm | 11 am, 1 to 5 pm | 2 pm |
| Friday | 3 pm | 11 am, 1 to 2 pm | 8 pm |
| Saturday | 9 am | Avoid posting | 4 to 5 am |
| Sunday | 10 pm | Avoid posting | 6 am |
Buffer also ranks two runners-up for each day, such as 3 pm and 5 pm on Wednesday. It rates Wednesday its best day, followed by Thursday and Friday, and finds Monday the weakest weekday with Tuesday close behind. Sprout Social gives no weekend times because engagement there is the lowest of the week. Hootsuite’s overall pick is less clear, since its summary says 8 to 9 am on Tuesday and Wednesday while its main text says 4 to 6 am.
Why the studies disagree
The three studies measure different things. An engagement rate is interactions such as reactions, comments and reposts divided by an audience number such as followers or impressions. Buffer ranks time slots by the engagement its posts received, Sprout Social looks at engagements across its customers’ profiles, and Hootsuite looks for the times of maximum engagement across over 1 million posts. Each tool studies posts sent through its own product, so each sample leans toward its own customers.
Audiences also change over time. Buffer says that in 2025 its LinkedIn peak was “almost entirely confined to working hours”, and that in 2026 it shifted later, to between 3 and 8 pm. Tuesday shows the split best, because it’s Sprout Social’s strongest day and one of Buffer’s two weakest.
Does posting time matter on LinkedIn?
Yes, and LinkedIn names recency as a signal. The LinkedIn feed is the stream of posts from your connections, the people and companies you follow, your groups, and relevant updates from outside your network. LinkedIn ranks it with machine learning, and among the content signals it lists are “How often a post is viewed or engaged with” and “How recent the content is” (LinkedIn Help: LinkedIn relevance).
Members can also sort their feed by Most recent first, for a session or as their default, though outside the European Economic Area the option may only be on desktop. For them, a post sent while they’re online sits near the top, and a post sent at 3 am may be buried before they look. That’s why timing counts on LinkedIn, though recency is one signal among many.
How to find your own best time
- Keep a log of when each post went out. According to Buffer, LinkedIn’s analytics don’t show exact posting times afterwards, only labels like “3h” or “2d”. SocialHelper’s Posts page lists each post with its time and a View link to the live post, so you don’t need a separate spreadsheet (tracking posts help page).
- Test the disagreement directly. Pick a Sprout Social slot and a Buffer slot on the same weekday, such as Wednesday at 11 am and Wednesday at 4 pm, and alternate them for a few weeks.
- Compare impressions and engagements per post. LinkedIn’s combined post analytics cover 7 to 365 days, switch between daily and cumulative views, and export to a spreadsheet. Members reached is the number of distinct members and pages who viewed your post, with repeat views not counted (LinkedIn Help: Combined post analytics).
- Keep the winner and test again later. Buffer’s own peak moved later in the day within a year, so run the test again every few months.
In SocialHelper, LinkedIn profiles and Company Pages are separate connections. Live now: LinkedIn. LinkedIn Pages is built and waiting on approval from the platform, and appears in the dashboard once approved. The Company Pages connection lists a Page’s recent posts with their times and reads its post statistics, such as impressions, clicks, likes and engagement rate.
Time zones
All three studies report times in the audience’s local time. Sprout Social lists every time in local time, Hootsuite localized its data across 118 countries, and Buffer says it “normalized posting times by local time zone”. So “4 pm” means 4 pm where your followers are, which may not be where you are.
Suppose your clients are mostly located in New York and you work from Vancouver. Buffer’s Wednesday 4 pm slot is then 1 pm for you, and Sprout Social’s 11 am becomes 8 am. If your audience spans continents, choose the zone where most of your followers work, or alternate slots through the week. SocialHelper displays scheduled posts in your own time zone, so convert once when you set up your slots.
Schedule your LinkedIn posts for those times
Once you’ve chosen your slots, set them as recurring posting times. Posting times are the weekly slots SocialHelper’s queue fills, such as Wednesday at 11 am and Thursday at 4 pm, and you set them in the dashboard under Calendar, then Posting times. After that, “Add to queue”, from the dashboard or from an AI assistant, puts each post in the next free slot. You can also schedule a single post for an exact time, up to 1 year ahead, and the scheduling help page has the steps.
A LinkedIn post can run to 3,000 characters, and the LinkedIn character counter counts one the way LinkedIn does. For bold text, line breaks and lists that survive posting, see our guide to LinkedIn text formatting. If you publish on other networks as well, our guides to the best time to post on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook compare the same three kinds of studies, with different results.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best time to post on LinkedIn?
There isn’t one time for everyone. Buffer’s best slot is Wednesday at 4 pm, Sprout Social’s strongest window is Tuesday from 11 am to 5 pm, and Hootsuite favours Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. A Wednesday post is the overlap, so start there and test the hour against your own analytics.
What is the best day to post on LinkedIn?
Wednesday in Buffer’s data, followed by Thursday and Friday. Sprout Social picks Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and Hootsuite rates Tuesday and Wednesday highest. Wednesday is the one day all three rate strongly.
What is the worst time to post on LinkedIn?
The weekend is the weakest period in all three studies. Sprout Social says to avoid Saturday and Sunday altogether. Buffer also finds Monday and Tuesday the weakest weekdays, and mornings before noon weaker than late afternoons in its 2026 data.
Is it better to post on LinkedIn in the morning or the evening?
The studies disagree on this question. Buffer’s 2026 data favours late afternoon and evening, from 3 to 8 pm, while Hootsuite’s favours early mornings and Sprout Social’s the hours from late morning to 5 pm. Test one morning and one late-afternoon slot on the same weekday, and keep whichever produces more engagement per post.
Should you post on LinkedIn on weekends?
Only if your own analytics show that your audience is engaged then. All three studies rate weekends lowest, and Sprout Social gives no weekend times at all. If you do post, Buffer’s best weekend slot is Saturday at 9 am.
How we checked this
We analyzed the three studies’ published findings, sample sizes, periods and methods on October 17, 2026. We ran a fact check of every time in both tables against each study’s page that day. LinkedIn’s help center is the source for the ranking signals, feed sorting and post analytics, and SocialHelper’s code and help center for the scheduling steps.
